The Sad Sonnet of ColonelTEE3

Quoted from the forums:

"""
I have some important advice that can only be acquired through drastic mistakes that few people are willing to chance :

1. Don't F--- with a colossus

2. Don't F--- with the goblins that F---'ed the Colossus

3. Goblins Can Breath Underwater.

4. Dwarves Can Not Breath Underwater.

5. Rivers on the outside DO support a flood when it has been disconnected from the original cave river.

Learn well from my mistakes, for the 3 war veteran champions that drowned a dishonorable death have no second life to live.

By these three I think I can guess what happened. Goblins can't actually breathe underwater, but a surface flood outside is supposed to be only knee-deep... In other words, as your dwarven halls filled up with water, drowning your dwarves, the goblins outside were wading about, just slightly wet.

Oh, and all hope is not lost. If you want to get rid of that perma-flood (and the goblins) there is but one way: lava.

From these, we can see that the Colonel was trying to drown some invaders outside of his fort, accidentally flooding his own fort to the ceiling, and realizing that floods outside are only knee-deep.

So sad.

Story from Krand

Here's the first part of a story from Krand. It'll be a weekly installment, so check back every once and awhile for an update.

Krand's Equipment, Dwarves and Map:

Map Type: Scorching, No plants/trees/water/animals. 20 each Plump
Helmet/Pig
Tail seeds. 10 each of each other seed. 7 barrels, 1 wagon, 1 mule, 1
horse,
1 axe, 1 pick. No professional dwarves all peasants.

As you can see, this a challenge build. Now, the story!

1st Granite, 1051, Early Spring

The sun overhead burns the ground like a oven. I should never have come
with Kel Olonestil on this trip. He offered us riches and spoils beyond
imagination if we would help him rob a town or two. We started and
ended with the dwarves trade depot at Govostobul Alnis.

When we got there they had a wagon just sitting there begging to be stolen.
After I distracted the guards, Kel slipped in with the rest of the group and
stole the wagon. I escaped in the confusion caused by this and met up with them at
a stream not far from the fortress. I remember as Kel cracked the top of each barrel
his shock at their contents. Inside each cask was a few bags of seeds.. It
was funny at first. But in our mirth, we got caught unaware when the guards
struck.

We fled and they gave chase. We ended up running into this long scorched wasteland,
they didn‘t follow. We don’t have any water or food
so we can’t go back the way we came. So the group has decided we will
carve a fort out of this hellish landscape, and try to survive to see our homes
once again. Long live the keep of Thothlibash!

Challenge Games #4 and #5

More challenge games, fresh and hot from the forums!
[quoted, again, exactly from the posts; from Slartibartifast and Krand, respectively]

"""
Outsiders:
You are not allowed to build anything inside the mountain. Stockpiles, workshops, everything goes outside. You are only allowed to dig into the mountain for stone/gems/ores (which I guess means you're allowed to bridge the inside river, chasm and magma)

"""

next one:

"""
Isolationists/Runaways
Pick a location that has no trade to any race but goblins. Give your dwarves no skills. Let them have a pick/axe and a hand full of seeds. Your life Expectancy will most likely be short. Even better if the location is Sinister/Terrifying.

aaaand

"""

Challenge 3: The Hermit Challenge

Start with seven skill-less dwarves and a pick. Pick any region that isn't "calm." Somehow kill off six dwarves and try to survive until you get your first wave of immigrants. See if you can keep all of them fed, as well.

I guess additional food and booze could be added if it's too hard.

"""

Challenge Game #1

Hey, everyone. This is the first of many challenge games that the blog will keep archived. Email me, with some proving screenshots, if you beat it.

.:Oh sh@t, elephants!:.
>Find a map with elephants (that means warm with trees)
>bring a pick and 7 skill-less dwarves
>survive until year five, and mine out the adamantine until the game ends
[special thanks to whoever did this first, I can't find your thread :( ]

Leerok the Lacerta's Fortress

I recently was pointed to this fortress, and I, after finally finding someplace to throw my big image files, have put it on the interwebz for you. The bottom link has some notes written (typed?) in by me, so new players can tell what everything is, and attempt to learn from these thousands of tiny symbols.

Link, no notes.
